BEAUMONT — A Port Arthur police officer was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving.

In an issued statement, police said the arrest was made shortly after 5 a.m. on Old Sour Lake Road in Beaumont.

A Jefferson County deputy arrested the officer — Port Arthur police did not name him — after they found him asleep in a vehicle, which was located in the roadway.

The Port Arthur officer was arrested at the scene and taken to the Jefferson County Jail.

Port Arthur police said the department has initiated an Internal Affairs investigation and would decide what to do “at the appropriate time.”
