The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints about an ongoing scam.

More than six citizens have reported receiving a phone call from 409-267–1679 from individuals stating they are Lt. Jacobs with the Sheriff’s Office. The scammer states the citizens have warrants or have failed to appear for jury duty and must meet with the lieutenant and make payments to prevent being arrested, according to a press release from the OCSO.

This is a scam.

The sheriff’s office will never ask for payment or bond to be made in person in the parking lot or even for credit/debit card numbers over the phone.

If anyone has any suspicion of the legitimacy of any type of bond or warrant payment, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 409-883-2612.

The OCSO asks for people to share the scam alert with family and friends, especially the elderly or those who may not have social media but need to be aware.
