WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Cards’ WNIT game set for 7 p.m. Friday tipoff

BEAUMONT — Friday night’s Women’s National Invitational Tournament game for Lamar against South Alabama will tip off at 7 p.m. at the Montagne Center.
Side court tickets for the WNIT contest are $9, end court seats $7 and general admission are $6. Tickets are on sale now. Women’s basketball season ticket holders will have their seats protected until noon Friday.
For tickets, call 880-1715, or stop by the Montagne Center ticket office or buy online. The Montagne Center ticket office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
The Cardinals (24-6) will be making their seventh appearance in a national postseason tournament in the last 10 years. This will be LU’s fourth time in the WNIT. The Cardinals previously appeared in the WNIT in 2011 against Arkansas, 2014 against Southern Miss, and 2018 against TCU.
The Cardinals went 17-1 in Southland Conference play to win the regular-season title for the second straight season. This was the first time in school history LU has won back-to-back Southland regular-season titles. By winning the SLC regular-season title, Lamar earns the conference’s automatic bid into the WNIT.
South Alabama, a member of the Sun Belt, is 24-10 on the season, including a 9-9 record in conference play. The Jaguars dropped a 57-56 decision to Little Rock in the championship contest of their conference tournament.
The Cardinals are 9-12 all-time vs. South Alabama. The teams last met in the 2004-05 season when South Alabama was a 74-57 winner over the visiting Cardinals.
