Two dogs that reportedly attacked a Postal Service mail carrier Feb. 14 have been euthanized.

The mail carrier told officers that when she walked up to the home in the 3900 block of 27th Street she saw the dogs in the back yard. The dogs reportedly came around the side of the house and attacked her when she got to the front porch at about 3:22 p.m.

The dogs, described as pit bulls, were removed from the residence and placed in quarantine while being tested for rabies and other diseases, which is standard protocol.

The owners of the dogs were issued two citations, one for each dog, on charges of restraint/at large, Port Arthur Police Det. Mike Hebert said. The family surrendered rights to the dogs and they were euthanized.

The mail carrier suffered injuries to her arms and hand and underwent surgery after the attack.
