SOFTBALL: Indians win pair at Brenham

Lilly LeBlanc held Thorndale to one hit in a three-inning, 16-1 Port Neches-Groves victory to start Friday’s play at the Brenham Cubettes’ Lead-Off Classic softball tournament.

PNG (3-2) backed up LeBlanc with four runs each in the first and second innings and run-ruled Thorndale with eight runs in the third. Sydnee Adams went 3 for 3 with two RBI and three runs; Sadie Shrestha and Cameron Niedenthal each batted 2 for 2 (Niedenthal drove in two runs) and Maylin Louvier hit 2 for 3 with three RBI.

PNG followed that game with a 2-1, five-inning win over Pearland as Niedenthal struck out two. Kasidee Sartin drove in the tying run in the third inning on a sacrifice fly and Hannah Denman lined the go-ahead RBI hit.

PNG will wrap up its stay in Brenham with games against Clear Brook at 10 a.m. and St. Agnes at 2 p.m.
