Letter to editor: Reader has complaint about garbage can fee

I have been seeing in the news where some people in Port Arthur had not been charged properly for the water they had used. The city went back and billed them huge amounts for water usage.

Last week my garbage can disappeared. I called for another one. The woman I talked to was rude and informed me I had two garbage cans. No, I only have one.

I called several times and was never at any time told when I would get a garbage can. Each time, I told them that I had been told I have two garbage cans. No, I only have one. Just one.

On Jan. 14 a young man — he was very nice — delivered a garbage can. Only then did I learn we pay a monthly fee for each garbage can we have. I checked my bill and, yes, I am being charged $18 for one can and $5 for an additional can. I have never had two cans.

Since they can back bill for water, can they and will they credit for billing for a garbage can I never had? Where did they get the idea I had two garbage cans?

Everyone should check their bills for the charges for garbage cans.
