Port Arthur Police, fire department and sheriff’s deputies worked Wednesday to recover the body of what was believed to be a man found near the Port of Port Arthur.
A representative of the port said a worker saw what they believed to be a body floating in the ship channel and reported the incident.
First responders were alerted at 9:33 a.m. but by the time they were able to launch a boat and get to the scene, the body had moved to another location.
There were no reports of a missing person.
The waterway was busy with various vessels traversing the channel and two ships were docked at the port.
PAPD Deputy Chief Martin “Bubba” Blitch said the body was that of a male and as of 4:30 p.m., it had not been recovered.
