A Beaumont man remained in the Jefferson County jail Monday, after a grand jury indicted him last week in 10 cases of possession of child pornography.
An arrest affidavit said Charles Augustus Bamber Jr., 63, was arrested in connection with an investigation that started after police went to his 775 Palm St. home on Feb. 9, 2017 at to investigate a suicide. A spokeswoman said the suicide was unrelated to the child pornography charge.
The affidavit said in the course of investigating the suicide, they saw a computer screen from an open door, with images of underage girls on the screen. Police seized the computer and 28 USB flash drives and recovered images of girls who appeared to be younger than 14.
Investigators said in the affidavit for arrest that with a warrant they uncovered “thousands of images of child pornography,” including 10 files on which they based their case. The affidavit said that about two months ago, they interviewed Bamber at his home and confirmed that the images were his, that he had downloaded images of child pornography to his computer and the flash drives.
Bond was set at $20,000 on each of the 10 charges for which Bamber was held Monday.
