VOLLEYBALL: Indians pull sweep of Bulldogs behind Gil’s 20 kills

Kaitlyn Gil was at her best Friday, nearly achieving a double-double but playing an all-around match as Port Neches-Groves took a 3-0 sweep of Nederland at the Dog Dome.

The win puts PNG at 30-5, one more win than last season, and 8-1 in District 21-5A with three matches remaining.

Gil had 20 kills, nine digs, six service points and three blocks. Halley Smith served 19 PNG points, and Holly Jones served 10, each one earning an ace. Maylin Louvier had nine for the Rock-A-Noos.

Smith did get a double-double with 18 digs, as did Jones with 16 assists. Bayja Newby had 11 digs, and Ariel Muller and Louvier each totaled five.

Harlee Barnwell totaled 11 assists and Natalie Nelson added four. Layla Stansbury blocked two shots.

Jones also scored four kills, with Liz Bolyard and Louvier each adding three.

No statistics were available for Nederland (19-17, 5-4), which hosts Cleveland on Tuesday. PNG will host Memorial then.
