Trooper involved in two-vehicle collision

Staff report

A Texas Department of Public Safety patrol car was struck Sunday night on State Highway 62 near FM 105 in Orange County.

Initial reports indicate the Trooper was responding to a reckless driver call around 6:25 p.m. that was reported on State Highway 62. The northbound DPS patrol car observed the reckless driver traveling southbound and the Trooper made a U-turn to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.

DPS said in an issued statement that due to wet road conditions, the patrol unit was rear-ended by a 2014 Chevrolet passenger vehicle.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 44-year-old Donna Stewart of Orange, and her passenger were both transported to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.  Their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

The DPS Trooper was also transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This investigation is in its early stages and there are no additional details to be released.
