UPDATE: Trinity Avenue hit-and-run victim upgraded to stable condition

A 26-year-old Port Arthur man is now in stable condition following a hit-and-run where his body was left lying in the middle of the road late Monday night.

Port Arthur Police responded to a call shortly after 11 p.m. in the 1200 block of Trinity Avenue and found the man had been struck while walking in the roadway.

The man was transported by Acadian Ambulance Service to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont where he was listed in critical condition. Police say he suffered a head injury, broken pelvis, dislocated hip and internal bleeding. His condition later improved to stable.

The vehicle that struck the man left the scene, prior to officers’ arrival.

Almost 5-inches of rain fell over the area on Monday causing some localized street flooding but the rain tapered off and police confirm the weather was clear at the time of the incident.

There is no suspect information and police are not releasing the name of the victim, Officer Sadie Guedry said.
