Vidor police respond to suspicious package

Vidor police cleared a shopping center Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious package was discovered.
Chief Rod Carroll said police were contacted at 3:51 p.m. about the package, which was located at Crossroads Shopping Center in the 800 block of North Main.
Responding officers located the device and verified that it was a possible explosive device, Carroll said in an issued statement. Orange County ESD No. 1 and the Bureau Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Office was contacted. The shopping center was evacuated as a precaution.
Arriving agents were able to examine the device and determine that it was an inert device. Everyone was allowed back into the shopping center upon the device being rendered safe.
The investigation was continuing.
