Police said earlier this week that the toddler’s condition had remained unchanged in a Galveston hospital following a Sunday mishap in an above-ground pool at a private residence.

Lemoine said in an issued statement Sunday that Port Neches police were dispatched to the 2500 block of 15th Street around 5:45 p.m. Sunday. There, the child, who had been playing with several other children in an above-ground pool, escaped the notice of others at the pool and went under water.

Adults pulled the child from the water and began lifesaving efforts. First-responders worked on the child, who was rushed first to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, then to Galveston for treatment Sunday.
