TYLER — Houston Post Oak smashed a two-run home run and stranded two Port Neches runners in the sixth inning to take a 2-0 win and clinch the Little League Texas East state championship Tuesday night.

Post Oak was the team that beat Port Neches in its first game at state, 11-1. Since then, Port Neches had beaten Northwest Austin 5-4 and Sugar Land Lamar American 9-8 in seven innings, the latter coming after PN trailed 8-3 going into the sixth.

This was the first state tournament appearance for this group of Port Neches 12-year-olds, who won the District 32 and Section 2 titles after being section runners-up as 11-year-olds. Post Oak has qualified for the Southwest Regional in Waco, scheduled for Aug. 2-8. The regional is the last step before the Little League World Series.
