Port Arthur Fire Department aided in giving the all clear after a construction company lost a radiation source on the highway Thursday.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. on Texas 73 near the Chambers County line, PAFD Chief Larry Richard said.
The radiation source was a camera used in non-destructive testing or NDT. The camera was recovered and the company that owned the device had their radiation specialist come out and monitor for radiation and the levels were deemed safe.
As a precaution, the PAFD also went out and checked with their instruments and their readings agreed with the company’s.
Richard said the camera was not breached.
