Six Nederland players were named to the Mid County Senior Babe Ruth All-Star team that will begin defense of the Nederland-based league’s 16- to 18-year-old World Series championship.
Catcher Case Babino, infielder/pitcher Brandon Cluck, outfielder Marcus Foreman, pitcher Noah Gregory, and infielders Landon Hiltz and Adam Roccaforte are among the Bulldogs on the 18-man roster. Mid County will begin play in a best-of-three Texas East state championship series against Del Rio on Friday night at Nederland High’s Metreyeon-Delahoussaye Field.
Game 1 is tentatively set for 7 p.m. Game 2 will be at noon Saturday, with Game 3, if needed, immediately follow.
The Texas East champion will play in the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The winner of that tournament will advance to the World Series in Jamestown, New York, in August.
Port Arthur Memorial outfielder Riyad Antoine is on the Mid County roster along with four Port Neches-Groves players: infielder Austin Bost, pitcher Brandon Petix, outfielder/pitcher Austin Schaper and utility player Cameron Stansbury.
Other team members include Little Cypress-Mauriceville infielder Jordan Alexander, LCM infielder/pitcher John Beeson, Kountze catcher/pitcher Cooper Coe, Bridge City utility Caleb Dubois, Kelly pitcher Peyton Miller, Hardin-Jefferson outfielder/pitcher Garrett Neale and H-J catcher/infielder Justin Smith.
Babino, Cluck, Foreman and Hiltz played on last year’s All-Star team.
