Mary was a woman of great faith, an avid Bible reader, and a devout Christian. She was an active member of the Barnes Memorial AME Church in Port Arthur, Texas for many years. She would later return to her roots in “The Country” — as she and her family lovingly refer to Washington, Texas — and became an active member of the Mt. Zion Porter AME Church.

Mary was employed as a nursing assistant at Park Place Hospital for many years. She worked there until her retirement. It was here that she honed· her stellar caregiving skills. She was known to many friends and family members as the ultimate caregiver. Because of her genuine kindness, compassion and generosity, she was loved by all who had the opportunity to interact with her.

Anyone who truly knew Mary knew she loved God and her family first and foremost. However, if you were blessed to really know her, you would most certainly know that she also loved her PETS and PLANTS! She was surrounded by both her entire life. Her yard was always immaculately manicured due to her daily, loving care. She was even once featured in the Port Arthur Newspaper concerning her “green thumb” techniques with her plants and flowers. When it came to her pets, she treated them like royalty — as they frequently enjoyed her good home-cooking, riding with her on her golf cart and in her car, and sleeping in the comfort of her home.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents Little and Viola Broaden, her grandparents Hosea Allen and Katie Whitley Allen, husbands Leroy Jacquet, Eugene Johnson and Clifton Sinegal Sr., her son, Clifton Sinegal Jr., her brother, Cuthers (“Ninnie Boy”) Broaden.

Mary Helen Sinegal leaves to cherish her loving memory six children: Gwendolyn Hayes (Solomon), Anthony Sinegal (Mercedes), Viola Lewis (Ronaldgra Ray), Reginald Sinegal (Loyce), Robert Sinegal (Neddra), Michael Sinegal (Yvette), fifteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, special cousin Corliss Jones, special friend Wilma Williams, her loving dog Tea Cup, and a host of other relatives and friends.
