A Beaumont motorist was killed Wednesday evening when his car left the roadway and hit a tree.

Beaumont police said in an issued statement that Benny Nettles, 57, was driving a red Chevy Cavalier northbound in the 5300 block of Pine Street around 7:09 p.m. when he apparently lost control of the vehicle in the curve.

The car hit a tree and overturned.

Beaumont EMS pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
