Bridge City offering five camps
A speed and strength camp will be the first of five athletic camps the Bridge City ISD athletic department is offering this summer.
The S&S camp will be held 8-9:30 a.m. for incoming seventh and eighth graders and 9:30-11 a.m. for incoming high schoolers from June 11-July 26.
A boys basketball camp will run from June 11-14, with pre-kindergarten through first graders going from 4-5 p.m. at Bridge City Elementary, second and third graders from 5:10-6:10 p.m. at Bridge City Elementary, fourth through sixth graders from 3-4:50 p.m. at Bridge City High and seventh through ninth graders from 5-7 p.m. at Bridge City High.
Two volleyball camps are scheduled for July 9-12 and July 16-19 at the Bridge City High competition gym. Times for the first came are: 9-11 a.m. for fourth through sixth graders and noon-2 p.m. for freshmen. Times for the second camp are: 9-11 a.m. for seventh graders and noon-2 p.m. for eighth graders.
The football camp is July 30-Aug. 1. Kindergartners through third graders will practice from 9-10 a.m., with fourth through eighth graders working out from 10 a.m. to noon at Larry Ward Stadium.
The cross country camp is Aug. 13-16 from 5-6:30 p.m. at Larry Ward Stadium.
All registration forms are online and can be turned in at the athletic director’s office at Bridge City High, 2690 Texas Ave.
LU offering summer soccer camps
BEAUMONT – The defending Southland Conference champion Lamar women’s soccer team is offering a pair of one-week youth soccer camps this summer for boys and girls from ages 4 to 13. All camps will be at the LU Soccer Complex.
Camps are scheduled for June 11-15 and July 9-13. The camps for youngsters 4-6 years of age will run from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each day, while the camps for players 7-13 run from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Mondaythrough Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
The camp, under the direction of Steve Holeman, the 2017 Southland Conference Coach of the Year, focuses on the development of fundamental skills through enjoyable exercises and competitions. There will be a separate training session for goalkeepers once per day. A certified athletic trainer will be at all sessions.
Campers are required to bring athletic shoes and cleats, a soccer ball, shin guards, sunscreen, a water bottle and an extra T-shirt.
The full-day sessions include time to swim in LU’s indoor pool and lunch in the university’s dining hall. Campers attending the full-day session must provide their own swimsuit and towel.
The cost for the full-day session is $285 per week. The cost for youths 4-6 attending the half-day camp is $145 per week. A $100 non-refundable deposit is required with registration. The balance is due two weeks prior to camp.
