BASEBALL: LeJeune named honorable mention All-Southland

True freshman Logan LeJeune is among three Lamar baseball players who received All-Southland Conference billing Monday.

LeJeune, of Port Neches, was honored as an honorable mention designated hitter. The infielder led Lamar in batting average during Southland play at .346 (27 hits, 14 RBI, 14 runs scored). He stole three bases, led the Cardinals in on-base percentage during Southland play (.475) and drew the second-most walks of any Cardinal this season.

Beaumont junior Ryan Erickson was named honorable mention All-Southland pitcher. He led the conference pitchers in ERA among those that played in at least 13 games with a 1.66 ERA through 48 2/3 innings in 25 games. He struck out 60 while allowing nine earned runs on 29 hits and walked 15. Erickson went 3-1 with a four saves.

Huffman sophomore Cole Coker made the second team as a utility player. Coker started all 55 games (37 at third base, 12 at left field, twice as designated hitter and once at second base). His 53 hits ranked second on the team and 22 RBI third.

Coker also stole four bases on five attempts.

The Southland also announced its superlative award winners, including Northwestern State first baseman David Fry (11 home runs) as player of the year. Others include Incarnate Word’s Ridge Rogers as freshman of the year, Northwestern State’s Jerry Maddox as newcomer of the year, Houston Baptist’s Matt Heck as hitter of the year, Central Arkansas’ Tyler Gray as pitcher of the year, Sam Houston State’s Dakota Mills as relief pitcher of the year and Northwestern State’s Bobby Barbier as coach of the year.
