The college basketball journey is taking Jase Miguez to his third stop.

Miguez, along with Lamar State College Port Arthur teammate Tre Grubbs, signed letters of intent Wednesday to continue their careers. Miguez, of Nederland, will play at Division III Louisiana College in Pineville, just north of Alexandria, and Grubbs, of Silsbee, is headed to the NAIA’s Wiley College in Marshall.

Miguez, a 6-foot-2 guard, started his collegiate career at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, where he played 23 games and scored 5.9 points per game. He then transferred to Lamar State and scored a season-high 22 points against Lee College, finishing the season with 6.2 points per game and an 87.5 percent free-throw clip.

“It’s all about experience,” Miguez said. “I was talking with [LC assistant] coach [Jonathan] Brooks and [head] coach [Reni] Mason. They’re bringing in a couple of JUCO kids who can bring in some leadership. I feel I can use that to my ability at Louisiana College.”

Grubbs saw time as a point guard for the Seahawks in two seasons. He averaged 8.3 points and 7.7 rebounds as a sophomore, coming up with a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds against Trinity Valley Community College.

“I was more physical and I played more to my ability and got out of my comfort zone,” Grubbs said. “I played to where I could get my teammates more involved.”
