Published 6:06 pm Tuesday, April 17, 2018

Lincoln graduate and former NFL running back Joe Washington Jr. will deliver the keynote address at Lamar football’s kickoff banquet on Aug. 26.

A time and place have not yet been announced. The banquet has been held at the Ford Park Arena, Montagne Center and Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum in recent years.

Washington graduated from Lincoln in 1972 and won two national championships at Oklahoma (1974, 1975) before going on to a nine-year NFL career including stops in San Diego, Baltimore (which had the Colts at the time), Washington and Atlanta. The fourth-overall pick in the 1976 NFL draft helped Washington win Super Bowl 17 in the 1982-83 season.
