BEAUMONT — Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes, even governments.

The Jefferson County Commissioners Court approved an interlocal agreement between Jefferson County and the cities of Groves and Nederland for street repairs for a smoother ride. The approval was made at the regular meeting of the Jefferson County Commissioners Court Monday afternoon at the courthouse.

“We do this each year to assist the Mid County cities. It’s a continuous thing,” said Brent Weaver, Precinct 2 commissioner. “We help them with our manpower and equipment. We’ve been doing this for years.”

It will take two to three weeks to complete the work.

March to October is the time of year when it’s warm enough for road crews to pour asphalt.

“We have a great crew at Precinct 2. We’re happy to assist,” he said.

Both cities require assistance, but they do not have sufficient labor or equipment suited for such construction and/or maintenance.

The cities will furnish Precinct 2 with materials needed in exchange for the labor and equipment. Furthermore, will provide 150 tons of cover stone rock to the county.

The city of Nederland will supply 4,000 gallons of CRS-2 oil.
