Kara Leigh Gumberger-Theriot

Kara Leigh Gumberger-Theriot, 55 of Port Neches, TX passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 1, 1963 to parents George Gumberger and Allah Primeaux-McClure in Port Arthur, TX. Kara was employed by Chevron Phillips as an Analytical Tester. She was a 1981 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and a graduate of Lamar University. Kara was an All-Star Bowler and a highly respected member of the Port Arthur Women’s Bowling Association for many years.
Kara was extremely talented; she carried a high average in bowling and was known to throw a hell of a ball. In her teen years, she enjoyed riding motorcycles, skateboards, and unicycles around Griffin Park. Kara also enjoyed playing golf, softball and taking casino road trips with family and friends. She was an avid Houston Astros fan and their World Series win brought her great joy. Kara was funny and witty so anytime you were with her you were going to be in for good times.
She was preceded in death by her father George Gumberger, her mother Allah Primeaux-McClure and step-father Roy McClure.
She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband of 31 years Corey Theriot of Port Neches, TX; brother Kurt Gumberger of Houston, TX; step-mother Kathy Healey-Gumberger of Port Arthur, TX; mother-in-law, Charlene Theriot of Port Arthur, TX; brothers-in-law Randy Theriot (Brenda) of Port Neches, TX; Danny Theriot (Eva) of Port Neches, TX; and Larry Theriot of Port Arthur, TX; sisters-in-law Tina Bland (Louis) of Orange, TX; Wendy Gray (Bart) of Flower Mound, TX; Charlene Nix (Anthony) of Cedar Park, TX; Lori Theriot (Devin) of Baytown, TX; and Nichole Sonnier of Port Neches, TX; step-brothers, Gary Parsley, Kevin Parsley, Patrick McClure and Jim McClure; and step-sister Julie Fitzgerald, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Kara and Corey’s neighbors, family and friends who cared for and supported them over the past several months. We want to thank the staff of Memorial Hermann Hospital and Heart to Heart Hospice for their support, love and care of Kara and of our family. Also, a huge thanks to her Chevron Phillips Chemical family for their support and love of Kara during these difficult months.
A celebration of Kara’s life will be held at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, TX onFriday, April 6, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm with a rosary to be led by her “Spiritual Soldier” and mother-in-law, Charlene Theriot at 7:00 pm at the funeral home. A memorial service held onSaturday, April 7, 2018 at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home at 10:00a.m. Cremation will be held after services under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Home
