Indians’ English takes third in state powerlifting meet

Andrew English brought Port Neches-Groves a bronze medal Saturday.

The senior took third place in the 220-pound weight class at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association meet at the Taylor County Expo Center in Waco. English lifted 1,610 pounds, totaling 670 in the squat, 380 in the bench press and 560 in the deadlift.

Nederland junior Tien Nguyen came in ninth in the 114-pound class after totaling 880 pounds (350 in squat, 180 in bench and 350 in deadlift).
