BOYS BASKETBALL: Coleman honored as TABC 5A coach of year

In a matter of three days, Port Arthur Memorial’s Kenneth Coleman has been named a coach of the year.

The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches named Coleman its UIL 5A coach of the year on Tuesday. The announcement was made on Hoopinsider.net.

During a reception for Coleman’s 5A state champion Titans on Sunday, local non-profit organization Save Our Children bestowed the same honor on the third-year head coach.

Coleman guided the Titans to a 34-5 record, which includes an active 26-game winning streak. Memorial beat Justin Northwest 75-69 in the March 10 championship game.

Silsbee coach Joe Sigler was hailed as the TABC’s UIL 4A coach of the year after leading the Tigers to a second straight championship. The 3A Don Coleman Outstanding Coach Award went to Duane Joubert of Kountze.
