James “Jimmy” Ray Hanna, Sr.

James “Jimmy” Ray Hanna Sr., 92, of Groves passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas.
James was born on July 4, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas to parents Ollie Lee (Wells) and Leslie Johnson Hanna. He enlisted in the United States Army on September 23, 1943 where he served his country in the 86th infantry 343rd Blackhawk Regiment in the Central Europe campaign during World War II and was honorably discharged on April 3, 1946. He married the love of his life, Idelia Gonsoulin, on August 8, 1946. James retired from Rainbo Bread Company and he also had work with Sunbeam Bread Company. He enjoyed the outdoors; going fishing, hunting and working in his garden. Jimmy was a member of St. Peter’s Apostle Catholic Church. James was a loving father, grandfather and friend who will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Idelia; his sisters, Gloria Broussard, Mildred Vidrine and his brother, Arland Hanna.
James is survived by his four sons, James R. Hanna Jr. of Groves, Ronnie Hanna and his wife, Vickie of Port Acres, Dale Hanna and his wife, Margie of Port Neches, Leslie Hanna and his wife, Becky of Groves. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Steven Hanna and his wife, Rachel, Jennifer Murphy and her husband, Kevin, Chris Hanna and his wife, Lainey, Michael Hanna and his wife, Beth, Megan Lunceford and her husband, Aaron, Holly Rickman and her husband, Ricky and fourteen great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2018 from 4:30 PM until 7 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves, with a rosary to be prayed at 6 pm at the funeral home. A 2 PM Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
