The Lamar men’s basketball team won’t be staying home during the postseason.

“The NCAA tournament was obviously the goal for Lamar University – and it always will be, but we are excited to have the opportunity to continue playing in the postseason,” Lamar coach Tic Price said in a statement. “The Southland tournament didn’t go the way we wanted but I’m happy our guys get another chance to play basketball. I’m really excited for our seniors who have worked very hard to change the culture of Lamar University basketball.”

Lamar’s hopes for an NCAA tournament berth ended bitterly with a 67-57 loss to Central Arkansas last Wednesday in the Southland Conference tournament in Katy. Lamar (19-13) had to win four games in four days at Katy to earn the automatic NCAA berth, but that went to Stephen F. Austin after its win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

UTSA is 19-14 overall and finished 11-7 in Conference USA. The Roadrunners beat UTEP and lost to Marshall in the conference tournament.

Teams will be re-paired after each round in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, or CIT.

The Lamar women’s team is guaranteed a berth in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament as the Southland regular season champion. Lamar, which lost to Nicholls State in Saturday’s Southland tournament semifinal, will find out its tournament destination Monday after 7 p.m. First-round games in the WNIT are scheduled for March 17-19.
