HOUSTON — The SWAC basketball tournaments are on Houston soil, and Texas Southern’s Joyce Kennerson was missing.

The SWAC’s women’s player of the year from Port Arthur battled a severe stomach virus and was not cleared to play in the Tigers’ 66-59 loss to Grambling State in Friday’s semifinal round.

Kennerson was the fourth-leading scorer in NCAA Division I women’s basketball through Friday at 24.2 points per game, trailing Megan Gustafson of Iowa (25.6), Jessica Kovatch of Saint Francis (24.8) and Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State (24.5).
