NEDERLAND — An employee with Gold Star Amusements was struck in the head and flown by medical helicopter to an unnamed hospital to be checked for head trauma on Saturday.
Some time after 1 p.m. there was a call of an unconscious person at 17th Street and Boston Avenue where Gold Star employees are currently putting up carnival rides for the upcoming Nederland Heritage Festival. Shannon Hemby, executive director of the festival, said a cable came down that was holding a steel beam of some sort and struck a worker on the head. Although unconscious at first, the worker did regain consciousness and was taken to a trauma center as a precaution.
Hemby said she would be in touch with the Gold Star family to see how the worker is doing.
