BEAUMONT — Former Lamar All-American and current Denver Bronco Brendan Langley stopped by Provost Umphrey Stadium Thursday afternoon to watch the Cardinals wrap up their second week of spring practice.
Langley has been in Beaumont the past two days visiting not only former teammates but also those who helped him on the academic side of his college career as well.
“I wanted to stop to see not only the football team, but I also went to visit some of my professors,” said Langley. “I just wanted folks here to know that I’m still one of them. It’s been fun to be back in town, and everyone seemed real excited to see me.”
Langley spent two seasons with the Cardinals impacting every phase of the game. The Georgia native transferred to LU as a receiver, but was moved to the defensive side of the ball due to a need in the secondary. Langley set a single-game school record for interceptions in a game on his way to earning All-America honors. Proving his worth as a two-way threat, Langley also set a school record for punt returns in a game.
“To be honest, I didn’t know how much this place would mean to me while I was here,” said Langley. “Ever since I’ve been gone, I’ve realized how much of a family this place was for me, and I’ve really felt that even after I’ve been gone. It’s cool to come back and have everyone welcome me with open arms.”
Langley completed his rookie season with the Broncos after being selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Langley overcame injuries this past season to play in 11 games recording three tackles.
“This whole process has been a great experience for me,” said Langley.
“Denver is a family-oriented franchise – a lot of the guys are married and have families. Everyone welcomed me with open arms from the moment I arrived. I feel very blessed to be in this situation, and feel Denver is the perfect place for me.”
Langley spent the afternoon at Provost Umphrey Stadium watching the Cardinals during their second week of spring camp. Big Red took to the field in helmet and pads, and for the first time since camp started had the opportunity to practice under clear skies without the threat of rain.
Thursday’s workout was the team’s fifth of a scheduled 15 culminating in the annual spring game set for Thursday, March 29. The spring game will begin at 6 p.m. from the Provost Umphrey Stadium.
