BRENHAM — A run in the seventh inning gave Port Neches-Groves the lead, but Brenham evened things in the bottom half of the inning, and the two finished in a 5-5 tie during Thursday’s first game in the Cubettes Lead-Off Classic.

Britni Hunt struck out two and walked four for the Indians (1-1-1). Hannah Denman in the fourth and Kaitlyn Boudreaux in the sixth homered, and Kasidee Sartin smashed a triple in the fourth for PNG. Boudreaux and Sartin each went 2 for 3.

PNG lost its next game to Gregory-Portland 6-4, but tried to make a late surge in the fifth inning with four runs. Bayja Newby and Denman each doubled, Callie Jourdan went 3 for 3, and Taylor Dominguez had a hit as well.
