Staff report
Two Beaumont men landed in custody Monday afternoon after fleeing a traffic stop, then crashing into another vehicle. Two handguns were recovered.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said in an issued statement that narcotics investigators working near Houston Street and Usan tried to stop two men traveling in a Chevrolet HHR when the pair fled.
Near IH10 and Walden, the HHR collided with a second vehicle carrying two women.
The two suspects fled on foot. One, Kamryn Broussard, 21, of Beaumont, attempted to enter an SUV driven by another woman. He was caught and arrested.
A 9MM handgun was found inside the suspects’ vehicle. Video showed a second suspect, Micah Hannah, 24, throwing a second 9MM handgun into a trash can while fleeing.
Although a heavy smell of marijuana was coming from the HHR, no narcotics were found.
The two women involved in the collision were taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.
One deputy was injured while attempting to arrest Broussard.
Hanna and Broussard were booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Hanna was charged with Evading Detention in a Motor Vehicle injury causing Serious Bodily Injury and Broussard was charged with Evading Arrest causing Serious Bodily Injury.
A woman in SUV “panicked and drove away before deputies could speak to her,” the statement said.
Deputies ask that she call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 409-835-8411 and speak to a narcotics investigator.
