Despite the flood, don’t forget to be thankful!

Tis the season to be grateful.

Do I need to tell that to our Harvey crowd? Yes! Remind your own self every single day. If your home was not affected, you likely have other folks living in it after the flooding. That could you make the actual, traditional Thanksgiving dinner a bit more of a challenge than usual. But relish it. I’m thinking a cranberry relish with walnuts and orange peel and perhaps a Serano pepper, if possible.

Or take it way down. Way, way simple. This year you need to know the goal is celebrating with family and friends. Maybe your whole goal is to make someone else feel better this season.

Get creative. I saw a Facebook group form from people who have excess Christmas decor for giving it to families who have lost theirs.

Go fall cleaning. It is always the season to purge. Go through closets and drawers for appliances and items you don’t need and see how they can help others.

Remember a few weeks ago when people were going crazy because they could not get to their favorite foods after the flood? Most of us are in a place of plenty now, so remember to be grateful for a little green apple, a fresh egg or a hot cup of tea.

Have the best, as in the most meaningful, Thanksgiving ever.
