Reports: Charles to debut vs. Pack

If you’re tuning in to see Jamaal Charles carry the ball as a Denver Bronco for the first time this weekend, … don’t.

Denver Broncos coach Vance Joseph said this week Charles, the Port Arthur native, will not play against the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday as he continues to work his way back from knee surgery, according to multiple reports. But there is good news for Charles fans: He’ll appear in the Aug. 26 home rehearsal against Green Bay.

Joseph said limiting Charles’ workload in training camp has been the plan for his road to recovery all along.

“He is ready to go, it’s me holding Jamaal back but he wants to go,” Joseph said on SB Nation’s Mile High Report. “He wanted to go last week but the plan was Green Bay so we’re going to stick with that plan. He will practice this week though in San Fran. He’s traveling, he will practice, but he won’t play Saturday.”

Charles, who spent nine seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, has been hampered by knee injuries the past two seasons. An ACL tear ended the 2015 season in Week 5, and a torn meniscus limited him last season.
