A truck was stolen at gunpoint and the alleged thief led law enforcement on a brief chase before being arrested Saturday night.
Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office were dispatched at 8:48 p.m. to the 200 block of Jerry Drive in Nederland where the victim told police that two Hispanic males stole his pickup truck at gunpoint.
Deputies spotted a truck matching the description traveling on Spurlock Road and after confirming this was the stolen truck, attempted to stop it, according to a press release from the JSCO.
The driver led deputies on a short pursuit on U.S. 69 before exiting at FM 365. The driver then sped through the parking lot and slowed down as he neared Starbucks. The driver exited the truck and took off on foot towards the back of Starbucks on FM 365. After a short foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody without incident with the assistance of Nederland Police Department.
Only one Hispanic male was in the vehicle at the time of the pursuit. The male was identified as a minor and taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Correctional Facility.
The victim’s truck was returned to him without damage.
