NEDERLAND — The current group of Port Neches Major All-Stars had made it to the state tournament twice and were playing in their third straight sectional final.

Given a first-inning home run and the ability to fight through the losers’ bracket, Port Neches was pushing to extend the streak.

North Shore had other plans. The east Houston team ended the Port Neches 12-year-olds’ postseason run Saturday, winning the Little League Section 2 championship 7-6 at Nederland Little League’s Shane Isom Field of Dreams.

A younger Port Neches team, however, is building its own track of success.

The 10-year-old Purple and White team won its Section 2 championship Saturday in Beaumont, routing Orwall American 19-4. That puts Port Neches in the Texas East state tournament in Houston, with details on the event yet to be announced.

Port Neches’ 11-year-old team will try again to win its Section 2 title after falling to Beaumont’s West End 7-6 at North Shore. Port Neches came out of the winners’ bracket, so the second game has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. today.

Statistics for all three games were unavailable.

The PN Majors were hoping to avenge a first-round defeat to North Shore and force its own second game. They led 1-0 after a Landon Guarnere home run in the first inning, but North Shore struck back with a two-run shot.
