Sonja Arlee Barnhill George

Sonja Arlee Barnhill George, 80, of Groves, Texas passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont.

She was born on June 17, 1937 to her parents, Travis Barnhill and Maudie Page Barnhill in Beaumont, Texas. Sonja has been a lifelong resident of the area. She worked as a secretary at Texaco before receiving her training as a lab Technician with Park Place Hospital. Sonja gave up her career to become a homemaker in raising her family. She was a longtime member of Faith Tabernacle in Port Arthur.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Travis Barnhill, Jr., her daughter, Sherree Hart, granddaughter, Lauren Crenek and her husband, Eddy John George, Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Zapotoschny and husband, Joe of Nederland, Texas, Tammie Crenek and husband, Gary of Friendswood, Texas and her son, Eddy John George, Jr. of Michigan. Her five grandchildren, Eric Zapotoschny, Micah Zapotoschny, Dylan George, Lindsay Crenek and Ashlyn Crenek along with three great grandchildren, Kenzie, Nick and Rylee Zapotoschny.

She is also survived by her brother, Davine Barnhill of Nederland, Texas as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Service to honor Sonja’s service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Faith Tabernacle Church in Port Arthur. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson.
