Artie B. Spencer, Jr, 88, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 at The Loving Care Personal Home Care in Beaumont. He was born September 19, 1928 in Carter County, Oklahoma, to parents Artle B Spencer, Sr. and Audrey V. Boatright Spencer.

Art graduated from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, and married his sweetheart, Marie Sawyer Spencer in 1948. They were married 66 years when Marie passed away in 2014. Art was a veteran and proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.

The couple moved with their four children to Port Arthur, Texas in 1968. Art’s professional career in Port Arthur included Manager of the Chamber of Commerce, then Vice President at the First National Bank of Port Arthur, and later, Public Relations Spokesperson for the Chevron U.S.A. Products Co. refinery in Port Arthur until his retirement.

An avid outdoorsman, Art enjoyed canoeing, camping, fishing and hunting, and spending time on the rivers and bayous, in the marshes, and at the beach with his family. In his senior years, he enjoyed the game of golf. He and Marie were members of the United Methodist Temple Church in Port Arthur.

He will be missed by his children, Mike Spencer (Julie) of Port Neches, Tim Spencer (Charlotte) of Gulf Breeze, FL, Susan Ferrell (Mike) of Princeville, HI, and Jon Spencer of Fort Walton Beach, FL; his eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law, Jack Sawyer (Betty) of Wichita, KS.

A visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Guy Williams officiating. A private graveside will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Groves, Texas.

Thanks to the staff at Pelican Bay Assisted Living Facility for taking care of Dad over the last year, and the nurses and caregivers at The Loving Care Personal Home Care in Beaumont and Compassion Hospice for their care at the end of Dad’s life.
