German Pellets silo collapses, no injuries reported

Sunday morning at approximately 4:20 am, the smoldering silo at German Pellets ruptured and collapsed. The Port Arthur Fire Department personnel on scene responded along with additional units from the City.  There were no people in the collapse zone when the collapse occurred and no injuries were reported.  Fire Department personnel are assessing the extent of the damage and actively extinguishing hot spots as they are exposed.TCEQ is participating in the response efforts, in conjunction with local partners as part of the Incident Command structure.  TCEQ responders are actively conducting visible emissions and odor surveys within the adjacent neighborhoods and also responding to citizen complaints within the TCEQ jurisdiction.
