AUSTIN — Tylen Guidry and Brian O’Bonna wrapped up Lamar track and field’s season Saturday afternoon when the two finished 33rd and 34th, respectively, at the NCAA West Preliminaries, hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Guidry, sophomore from Richmond, entered the meet seeded 38th and fell just short of his lifetime best in the prelims. His final mark was 49 feet, 7 1/2 inches, one inch short of the best he put up at the Southland Conference Championships — which awarded him the chance to compete in Austin.

He fouled in his first two of three jumps, but his final attempt stuck and gave him 33rd.

O’Bonna finished one spot behind him at 49 feet, 6 1/2 inches. He was seeded 22nd at the start of the meet. He popped his top mark in the first leap of the day. He followed that with a 44 feet, 9 1/2 inches jump, but bounced back in the third attempt for a mark of 48 feet, 7 1/2 inches.

O’Bonna was 12th in his heat and Guidry was seventh.

Only the top 12 competitors from the preliminaries are able to advance to the NCAA Division I National Championships in Eugene, Ore. Oral Roberts’ Jaden Purnell was the 12th-place finisher on a mark of 51 feet, 10 inches. The preliminary winner was Eric Sloan (55-6 1/2) of Southern California.
