NEDERLAND — Connor Thompson is joining a nationally ranked Division III track and field program.

Meanwhile, fellow Nederland senior Travis Wiedenfeld is continuing his soccer career there, while Wiedenfeld’s teammate Anthony Drago is headed for the Rocky Mountains.

The three Bulldogs signed their respective letters of intent Thursday. Drago’s signing takes him to Colorado Northwestern Community College, located just east of the Utah border in Rangely.

“I knew a coach who came down here, and he kind of saw me at a couple of camps,” the goalkeeper said. “So, he decided to take a shot at me. He wanted to bring me up there and get something going.”

Wiedenfeld, an outside midfielder, was impressed with the Seguin campus, as was Thompson. He isn’t sure, however, exactly what his role will be with TLU’s Bulldogs.

“I’m hoping I can utilize my size and my speed to my advantage,” he said.

Thompson, a sprinter, is joining a team that just won the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in its third year since the reboot of the program. TLU was second to Trinity each of the past two seasons.

“My track program just got ranked 13th at the end of the year,” Thompson said. His fastest times are 22.8 seconds in the 200 meters and 11.0 in the 100.
