Complaint leads to arrest of 3 for drugs in Port Neches

PORT NECHES — A citizen complaint about possible drug activity led to the arrest of three men in Port Neches on Thursday.

Detectives with the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force were investigating the complaint at about 12:15 p.m. May 18 and went to a residence at The Palms Apartments, 877 Ridgewood, and spoke with a man later identified as Jerry McDaniel, according to a press release from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives reportedly smelled a strong odor of marijuana when the door was opened. Another resident of the apartment, Eric Hernandez, was present and gave consent to search the apartment.

Detectives reportedly found 2 ½ pounds of hydro marijuana packaged for distribution, approximately 120 grams of liquid promethazine and 40 Ecstasy pills. A loaded pistol and a loaded AK-47 rifle with a large ammunition drum magazine were also located at the apartment.

Hernandez, 21, and another man, Anthony M. Gants, 21, were arrested for felony possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

McDaniel, 25, was arrested for possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
