Forris James Mitchell Sr. (Mitch)

On the morning of April 23, 2017, God call Forris James Mitchell Sr. home. Forris was born to the union of Paul Earnest and Anitillia Mitchell in Lafayette, Louisiana. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, under the spiritual guidance of Pastor Leonard Frazier. Forris was a 1964 graduate of Lincoln High School and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on February 02, 1967 through October 16, 1972. He re-enlisted and served additional years. Forris received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Combat Medal, Action Medal, Rifle Marksman Badge, and Presidential Unit Citation. Forris was employed twenty-seven years at Ameripol Synpol, where he retired due to illness. He loved football and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He also loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Anitillia Mitchell and Paul Earnest, brothers; Lawrence, Kernest, children; Timothy and Vincent.
Forris leaves to mourn Eva and Corine, children; Spacey & Asia, James & Michell, Forris Jr & Jennifer, Kevin, Daughter; Destiney & Hendrick, Joseph & Rockella, Nakiai, sisters; Terry, Regina, fourteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Peaceful Rest Baptist Church, 5622 Wheatley, Port Arthur, TX with visitation from 12 noon until service time. Burial will be in Houston National Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
