Elzina “Sug” Babineaux

Elzina “Sug” Babineaux peacefully departed this earthly existence May 1, 2017, after a lengthy illness. She was born July 29, 1926, to the union of James and Francis Withers Ruffin in Port Arthur, Texas. She graduated from Lincoln High School and the infamous Franklin Beauty College before owning her own salon. She was known by many for being one of the few beauticians to continue to employ the straightening comb and curling irons. She enjoyed her clientele and provided expert services for nearly 50 years.

Mrs. Babineaux married her beloved husband Charles Babineaux blending their families – his sons Dwight and Jeffery Babineaux and her son Anthony Lathan.

Mrs. Babineaux was an active, lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served as an usher until her health began to fail. She was a sponsor of the Catholic Youth Organization for 15 years; and was a member of Third Degree and Fourth Degree Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary, Cartegena Court #32, Lady of Grace; Legion of Grace; and Alter Society.

Mrs. Babineaux was preceded in death by her husband “Charlie” as she affectionately called him; their three sons, Joseph Jeffery and Dwight Babineaux, and Anthony Carl Lathan, Sr.; two grandsons, Anthony Carl, Jr. and Andre’ Keith Lathan; her siblings, James Ruffin, Paul Ruffin and Dorothy Mae Sanderson and one niece, Carlis Sanderson.

Those who live to cherish her memory are her other grandchildren, Joseph Heath (LaShawn); Nichelle Thibodeaux, Jeffery Joseph Babineaux II; Joshua Babineaux (Tyeshia); Jonathan Babineaux (Blair); Jordan Babineaux (Everly); Jean Catherine (Donald) Bergeron; several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law and two especially devoted nieces, Dorothea Sanderson and Bridget Goudeau, who lovingly cared for her until her death. Her nurses at Senior Rehab, Shakeeva Shankle, Angela Jones, and others at the facility will be remembered for their kind attention to Mrs. Babineaux’s needs.

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Port Arthur, with visitation from 8:30 A.M. until service time. Rosary will be recited at 9:30 A.M. Rite of Committal and Entombment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Park under the direction of Hannah Funeral Home, Inc.
