2 dead in wreck near Winnie

Two people have died after their vehicle reportedly ran a stop sign and was stuck by an 18-wheeler near Winnie on Wednesday.

Texas Department of Public Safety got the call around 1 p.m. of the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Texas 73 and County Line Road in Chambers County. The crash happened about one to two miles west of Texas 124, according to a press release from DPS.

Initial reports show that a Lincoln Town Car was heading south on County Line Road. The driver of the Lincoln failed to stop at a stop sign, traveled onto Texas 73 and was struck by a truck tractor semi-trailer that was westbound on Texas 73.

Both occupants of the Town Car were killed.

Eastbound lanes of Texas 73 were closed but westbound traffic lanes remained opened after the wreck.
