Seahawks take 2 from Baton Rouge

Lamar State College Port Arthur scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to open a doubleheader sweep of Baton Rouge Community College with an 8-6 victory on Thursday.

Lamar State then won 5-1.

Marisol Ynfante stole home with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the first game to start the winning rally. That was during Kayla Sheridan’s at-bat, and the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi signee finished it with a single to third base. Alexis Perez gave the Seahawks the lead with a one-run single, and Sheridan scored on an error to fashion the final score.

Lamar State won the offensive battle not only in runs but in the hit column 12-11. Guidry, who’s headed to Lamar University, went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Sheridan was 2 for 4, and Perez — who drove in three runs — had a hit, as did Briana White, Morgan Chavarria, Makenzi Maloy, Meleaha Ewing, Ynfante and May. Maloy’s hit was a home run.

White earned the win after 2 2/3 innings and two hits allowed. Cameron Greaves started and gave up three earned rusn on nine hits.

In the second game, Guidry went 3 for 3 and scored two runs, and White, who homered, was 2 for 3. Shelby Broussard, McKenzie Andrus, Desiree Barrera, Sheridan, Perez and May also made the hit column.

May allowed one earned run on four hits in a complete-game win.
