Anna Mae Leysath

Anna Mae Leysath, 88, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont.

She was born on November 25, 1928 to Susie Alice Harris Johnson and William Sam Johnson in Port Arthur, Texas. Anna Mae was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur and was a lifelong member of St. Johns United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 70 years and served in Music Ministry as Director for many years.

She worked for Swicegood Music Store, Dr. Watt’s Office, J. C. Penney, H & R Block for 26 years and Port Arthur Independent School District as a teacher aide until she retired. She also taught piano at home.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Walter Glynn Leysath, Sr. and her son, Walter Glynn Leysath, Jr.

Anna is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Suzanne Welfel of Bryan, Texas, Beverly Kay Smith and husband, George of Plattville, Wisconcin; her sons, Charles Leysath and wife, Maggie of Livingston, Texas, James Franklin Leysath and wife, Jan of Beaumont, Texas. She leaves her nine grandchildren, Zachary Thomas Nagle, Kyle Daniel Nagle, Justin Nathaniel McBeth, Julian Sean McBeth, Benjamin Alexander McBeth, Samuel Mitchell McBeth, Johannes Charles Egbers and wife, Lori, Alexander Garrett Egbers  and Cedric Arthur Egbers along with four great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Rose Flowers of Binger, Oklahoma, Susie Ethel Randle of Lakehills, Texas, her brother, William Sam Johnson, Jr. and wife, Elaine of Goliad, Texas, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Port Acres. Service to honor Anna’s life will be celebrated at 2:00 PM Saturday at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Nicole Boddie, officianting. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens in Nederland under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves.
