A man has been arrested in connection to eight airport related burglaries including one at the Jack Brooks Regional Airport.
Losses at the local airport are more than $225,000 while the total loss at al of the locations is in excess of $1.2 million.
Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were notified on Saturday, March 11 that an airplane on the tarmac was broken into. They believe the suspect then broke into a hanger and burglarized several planes and a vehicle inside the hanger. Evidence was discovered at the scene that helped in finding the suspect, who has not been named, according to a press release from Capt. Crystal Holmes with the JSCO.
Investigators Deputy Mark Holmes and Deputy Danny Powell also found that two airports in Chambers County, two airports in Harris County, the Beaumont Municipal Airport, an airport in Conroe and an avionics business in Conroe had also been victims of similar thefts during the time period.
The suspect was arrested in Conroe and law enforcement said he was in possession of the stolen property. JSCO investigators, working with Conroe Police Department investigators, interviewed the suspect who made a statement about the crimes.
All of the property has been recovered and will be returned to the rightful owners.
The suspect remains in the Montgomery County jail on felony theft charges. His name will not be released due to the ongoing investigation.
