On Saturday, February 18, 2017, His Lord called his servant Rev. Ransom E. Howard, Sr. home.

 

Ransom Eugene Howard, Sr. was born in Port Arthur, Texas to Earnest, Jr. and Ann Marie Haley Howard on August 26, 1967.   He was baptized at an early age and answered the call from God early in life under the leadership of his late uncle, Dr. Ransom Howard at First Sixth Baptist Church, Port Arthur, Texas.

He was educated in the Port Arthur Independent School District and was a proud graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School’s Class of 1985. He attended Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas where he studied Political Science and Pre-Law. He received his Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Lamar University, Beaumont Texas. Ransom attended the American Baptist Theological Seminary of American Baptist College, Southeast Texas Extension and received a Certificate in Christian Training in 1995 and a Diploma in Theology in 1996.

 

Rev. Howard was the Vice Moderator of the Eastern Progressive Baptist District Association; and served on the Port Arthur Economic Development Committee (EDC); and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Rev. Howard led the Rock Island Congregational March to the place of the Historical Marker recognizing Rock Island Baptist Church as a Texas Historical Landmark on July 22, 2012.

 

Pastor Howard now joins his grandparents Eugene and Telen Lee Haley; father Earnest Howard, Jr.; uncle Dr. Ransom Howard; and mother-in-law Earnestine Miller in the heavenly streets paved with gold as they all declare God’s majesty.

 

While Rev. Howard will be terribly missed here on earth, he will forever live in the hearts of his loving and devoted wife of 23 years, Rhonda, 3 strong and God-fearing sons, Ransom Eugene, Jr., Ryan Benjamin, and Regan Jamaal; mother, Ann Marie Haley; brother, Michael Wayne Howard (Jackie); 3 uncles, Kenneth Wayne Haley (Rachel), Dwayne Keith Haley (Venita) of Baytown, and John Augustine (Wanda); father-in-law, Albert B. Miller; brother-in-law, Cedric Miller (Stephanie) of Beaumont; sister-in-law, Erica Miller; other aunts, uncles, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends and fraternity brothers.

 

Services celebrating the life of Rev. Ransom E. Howard, Sr. will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Rock Island Missionary Baptist Church, Port Arthur, Texas. The Kappa Alpha Psi Funeral/Burial Rite will begin at 10:00 AM at Rock Island Missionary Baptist Church and viewing will be from 9 a.m. until service time. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
